INFECTION – A resident of the department of Var, now cured, was infected with the Zika virus in Hyères, announced Wednesday, October 9 the Regional Health Agency (ARS).

She is cured, but she was infected by Zika. It is in the Var that this patient was diagnosed "last week" in Hyères. She was taken in charge by her doctor, explains the ARS of PACA. The Regional Health Agency said it was the "only indigenous case identified in 2019 in metropolitan France".

Zika virus infection is a disease that can be transmitted from person to person through a tiger mosquito bite, such as dengue and chikungunya, if the latter is a carrier of the virus. Sexual transmission is also possible, says the ARS.

The undetermined origin

In 2016, the Zika epidemic affected more than 66,000 people in the West Indies. In the vast majority of cases, the virus was manifested only by high fevers, pains and pimples in a short time. In 2018, 10 Zika cases were reported in metropolitan France. Aboriginal cases are distinguished from cases imported by persons who contracted the disease while traveling in a contaminated area. "The ARS, Public Health France and the Interdepartmental Agreement for the demoustication of the Mediterranean littoral (EID) continue their investigations (…) to determine the origin of the case and prevent the spread of the disease," the statement added.

The ARS asks people with suggestive symptoms (rash, muscle or joint pain, fever, fatigue, headache), especially if they appear in the first days after returning from a trip to a tropical area. consult your doctor immediately.
