The head of Tesla, Elon Musk, announced a new lap record for the Laguna Seca ring circuit for 4-door transport vehicles, which was installed during testing of a Model S electric car with a Plaid power unit and an experimental version of the chassis. The car passed the track in 1: 36.555, improving its previous record achievement by 1 s.
Following the recent launch of the Porsche Taycan, Musk seems to be keen to demonstrate that the Tesla-made electric cars are still the most efficient cars available at the moment.
He said last week that the Tesla Model S will be tested on the Nurburgring race track. The statement was made immediately after Porsche set a new speed record for 4-door electric cars on this track.
Musk confirmed yesterday that the Model S is being tested on the track in Germany, but it seems that the record is not yet in question.
