Olympic sailing – WCH – World Championships: Last busy day for Billy Besson and Marie Riou

The French Billy Besson and Marie Riou capsized and left in the final race (medal race) Nacra 17 World Championships on Sunday in Clearwater, Florida. Fortunately, the French duo had already secured the title yesterday. A strong advance built over the week, they were mathematically assured of winning on Saturday evening after their titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

The Austrians Thomas Zajac / Tanja Frank took 2nd place ( 145 pts) and Dane Allan Norregaard / Anette Viborg-Andreasen 3rd (154). Another French duo, Moana Vaireaux / Manon Audinet, finished in 7th place (182).

Les Bleus less verve in other categories the French have a much less conspicuous against 49er (men) and 49er FX (women), two other Olympic series that also disputed their world championship in Clearwater. 49er, New Zealanders Peter Burling / Blair Tuke have emerged, the best tricolor Julien Ortoli / Delpech Noah taking 9th place. 49er FX, Spanish victory Tamara Echegoyen / Berta Betanzos. The French pair Sarah Steyaert / Aude Compan abandoned following a knee injury Steyaert.
